Every reporting entity must verify identity of clients and beneficial owners by Aadhaar authentication for banks, offline Aadhaar verification, passport, or other officially valid documents; non-bank entities may be permitted Aadhaar authentication by notification subject to privacy and security standards and consultation with the Unique Identification Authority and regulator. Aadhaar-based methods must be voluntary, alternative modes must be available, and neither the Aadhaar number nor core biometric information may be stored; the Central Government may notify additional safeguards.
