Segregation of securities: participants must open separate accounts for each beneficial owner and act only on owner instructions. Regulation 42 mandates that participants open separate accounts in the name of each beneficial owner and segregate their securities; register transfers to or from those accounts only upon receipt of instructions from the beneficial owner and confirm such transfers per the depository's bye-laws; and support every beneficial-owner account entry with electronic instructions or other agreed modes of instruction.
