<h1>SFIO officers' power to arrest suspects u/s 212, with Director SFIO as final approver for subordinates</h1> Where an officer of SFIO (Director, Additional Director or Assistant Director) investigating a company (other than a Government or foreign company) has, on material in his possession, reason to believe-such reason to be recorded in writing-that a person committed an offence under section 212 of the Act, he may arrest that person; in the case of an arrest by an Additional Director or Assistant Director, prior written approval of the Director SFIO is required, and the Director SFIO is the competent authority for all decisions pertaining to arrest, making the Director the final decision-maker and imposing an internal approval requirement for subordinate arrests.
