Storage of imported goods pending customs clearance permitted in public warehouses subject to initial term and discretionary extensions. Where clearance or removal cannot reasonably be effected, the Assistant Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner may permit imported goods entered for home consumption or dutiable goods entered for warehousing to be stored in a public warehouse for a limited period; Chapter IX does not apply to such goods, and the Principal Commissioner or Commissioner may grant further time-limited extensions.
