Amendment to Section 54EC: Bonds Notified by Central Government Now Eligible for Tax Exemption from April 1, 2018.
Section 54EC of the Income-tax Act was amended by the Finance Act, 2017. In sub-section (3), within the Explanation, clause (ba) was revised. The amendment replaces the reference to 'the Companies Act, 1956' with 'the Companies Act, 1956; (1 of 1956) or any other bond notified by the Central Government in this behalf.' This change is effective from April 1, 2018, allowing for the inclusion of bonds notified by the Central Government for tax exemption purposes.
