Penalty for failure to furnish information return: authority may impose a daily monetary penalty until the return is furnished. Where a person required to furnish an information return under section 139 fails to do so within the period specified in the notice under sub section (3), the prescribed authority may direct payment of a penalty assessed for each day during which the failure continues.
