Search Operations: Valid Warrant, Lady Officer for Residences, Identity Checks, Witnesses Required, Detailed Documentation Essential
During a search operation, a valid search warrant must be issued by the proper officer. A lady officer should accompany the team when searching a residence. Officers must present their identity cards and execute the search warrant in the presence of the premises' in-charge, obtaining their signature and those of two witnesses. The search should occur with at least two independent witnesses, who must be briefed about the search's purpose. Officers and witnesses must offer themselves for personal searches before and after the operation. A Panchnama/Mahazar documenting the search and seized items must be prepared and signed by all parties involved, with a copy provided to the premises' in-charge. The search warrant and a report of the search outcome should be returned to the issuing officer, who must maintain records of all warrants issued and returned.
