Provisional safeguard measures can suspend tariff reductions or raise customs duty within MFN limits for temporary protection. The Central Government, on the basis of the preliminary findings of the Director General, may suspend further reduction of any rate of customs duty under the Trade Agreement or increase the customs duty on the good concerned up to the lesser of the Most Favoured Nation applied rate in effect when the measure is taken or that in effect on the day immediately preceding the Agreement's entry into force; such provisional measures remain in force for not more than two hundred days from imposition.
