It applies to companies incorporated under this or previous laws, insurance companies, banking companies, electricity companies, and any other companies governed by special acts, subject to certain exceptions. The Act extends across India and came into effect upon notification by the Central Government, with different dates for different provisions. The Act was assented to by the President on August 29, 2013, and published in the Gazette of India on August 30, 2013, as Act No. 18 of 2013.
