Employers Must Deduct and Remit Employee Debts to Co-Operative Societies Under Multi-State Co-Operative Societies Act, 2002
Under the Multi-State Co-Operative Societies Act, 2002, a member of a multi-state co-operative society can authorize their employer to deduct a specified amount from their salary or wages to settle debts owed to the society. Upon executing such an agreement, the employer must deduct and remit the agreed amount to the society within fourteen days of deduction. If the employer fails to comply, the society can recover the amount as arrears of land revenue, with the employer's liability ranking equally with unpaid salary or wages.
