Wealth-tax Act Update: Settlement Commission Can Amend Orders to Fix Mistakes, Must Notify Parties if Liability Changes.
Section 22D of the Wealth-tax Act, 1957, is amended to include a new sub-section (6B), effective from June 1, 2011. This provision allows the Settlement Commission to amend its orders within six months to rectify any apparent mistakes. However, if the amendment affects the applicant's liability, the Commission must notify both the applicant and the Commissioner and provide them an opportunity to be heard before proceeding with the amendment.
