        Income tax Settlement Commission establishes composition and seniority based appointment criteria for settlement of direct tax cases. Establishes the Income-tax Settlement Commission to settle cases under the Chapter, functioning within the Department of the Central Government dealing with direct taxes. The Commission shall comprise a Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons and other members appointed by the Central Government from Indian Revenue Service officers who meet prescribed long service and Commissioner rank seniority qualifications.
