Amendment to Customs Tariff Act: Clause 102 Alters Classification of Textiles by Predominant Weight in Mixed Materials
Clause 102 of the Finance (No. 2) Bill, 2009 proposes an amendment to the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act. It modifies Para (A) of Note 2 in SECTION XI, affecting the classification of goods in chapters 50 to 55, or headings 5809 or 5902, made from a mixture of two or more textile materials. The amendment specifies that goods should be classified based on the textile material that predominates by weight. If no single material predominates, classification should be based on the material covered by the numerically last heading among those equally considered.
