Penalty for false statement: knowingly false returns attract criminal liability with imprisonment and mandatory fine. A person who, in any return, statement or other document required under the Act, makes a statement which is false in any material particular knowing it to be false, or omits any material fact knowing it to be material, shall be punishable under the Act by imprisonment and a fine, subject to any other express provision in the Act.
