Mines: the labour code exempts certain prospecting and common-mineral excavations, subject to prescribed conditions and notifications.

Section 68 provides that the Code does not apply, except for sections 35, 38, 40, 41 and 44, to prospecting-only excavations and to extraction of specified common minerals subject to Central Government-prescribed conditions; the Central Government may declare the Code applicable to such mines, and where prescribed conditions cease to be fulfilled the Code becomes immediately applicable and the employer must notify the prescribed authority as required.
