Trade Union registration requires affidavit declarations, rules and resolutions, asset statements for older unions, and Registrar oversight.

An application for registration of a Trade Union must be made to the Registrar and include an affidavit declaration, the union's rules and members' resolutions adopting those rules and authorising the application; federations require resolutions from each member union. Unions existing over one year must deliver a prescribed general statement of assets and liabilities with the application. The Registrar may call for further information, refuse registration until information is furnished, and require alteration of a proposed name that is identical or deceptively similar to an existing registered union.
