Community mediation enables consensual local dispute resolution via referral to a three member panel of community mediators.

Community mediation allows consensual settlement of disputes affecting local peace by application to the Legal Services Authority or, where none exists, to the District or Sub Divisional Magistrate, who will refer the matter to a three member panel of community mediators. Authorities must maintain and may revise a permanent panel comprising respected community persons, local contributors, resident association representatives, experienced mediators and others, with consideration for women and other categories in representation.
