Constitutional amendment redefining State and Union Territory composition by substituting Article 1 and the First Schedule.

Amendment substitutes Article 1 and replaces the First Schedule to list and define the States and Union Territories. Clause (2) is redrafted to declare that States and their territories are as specified in the First Schedule and clause (3)(b) is amended to refer Union Territories to that Schedule. The new First Schedule enumerates States and Union Territories and defines their territorial extents by cross-reference to territorial provisions in existing reorganisation and transfer statutes.
