The Multi State Co operative Societies Act, 2002 establishes a statutory framework enabling co operative societies with membership and objects spanning more than one State to be formed, registered and governed under a uniform regime; it promotes voluntary formation, democratic functioning and mutual aid, seeks the economic and social betterment of members, provides for functional autonomy, extends to the whole of India, and comes into force by Central Government notification with potentially different commencement dates for different provisions.
