Witness refusal to answer or produce documents: court may commit witness to custody until compliance or the adjudged period.

A magistrate or judge may issue a warrant of commitment where a summoned witness, without just excuse, refuses to answer questions or to produce a document; the warrant authorises an officer to take the witness into custody and keep them for the period adjudged, subject to earlier release if the witness consents to comply, and requires returning the warrant with an endorsement certifying its execution and the court's seal, signature and date.
