Voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty attracts imprisonment or fine, increased for grievous hurt.

Voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant in the lawful discharge of duty, or with intent to prevent or deter performance of that duty, is punishable by imprisonment which may extend to five years, or by fine, or by both. Where the act causes grievous hurt under the same circumstances, a higher term of imprisonment with a statutory minimum and an extended upper limit applies, and the offender is also liable to fine.
