Quoting Aadhaar or PAN now attracts penalty for each default where quoting or authentication is omitted.

Amendment broadens section 272B to impose a penalty of ten thousand rupees for each default where a person fails to quote or authenticate the permanent account number or Aadhaar number as required, and empowers the Assessing Officer to direct payment of that penalty; new sub-sections (2A) and (2B) respectively cover failures by the individual required to quote/authenticate and failures by persons ensuring quotation/authentication in transaction documents, with a mandatory opportunity to be heard before penalty is imposed.
