Informant confidentiality protects informant identity and information while permitting limited lawful disclosures for investigations and prosecutions.

Informant confidentiality treats informant identity and Original Information as protected, permitting disclosure only when required for legal proceedings, as allowed by the regulations, or by law. The Board may share Original Information with regulatory agencies, self-regulatory organizations, exchange surveillance or investigation wings, law enforcement, revenue authorities, or public prosecutors, subject to confidentiality assurances. Such information and identity are exempt from specified RTI disclosures, the Board may use information received otherwise subject to evidence law, and disclosure of informant identity or existence cannot be compelled except to the extent relied upon in proceedings against a person; confidentiality is maintained throughout investigatory and Board processes.
