Bilateral safeguard review mechanism allows continued protection only where serious injury risk and industry adjustment are shown.

The review mechanism empowers the Director General to examine whether a bilateral safeguard measure should continue. If satisfied on the basis of information received that the measure remains necessary to prevent or remedy serious injury and that the domestic industry is adjusting positively, the Director General may recommend continued imposition of the measure to the Central Government. Where there is no justification for continuation, a recommendation may be made for withdrawal of the measure.
