Protection of industrial and geographical indications now enables import or export prohibitions to safeguard those rights.

Clause 54 amends clause (n) of sub section (2) of section 11 of the Customs Act to add designs and geographical indications to the list of protected intellectual property, thereby empowering the Central Government to prohibit, absolutely or conditionally, the import or export of goods to protect these rights and effect customs controls for their protection.
