Suspension under service regulations: employees may be suspended pending disciplinary or criminal proceedings and while penalties are reconsidered.
Suspension empowers the Competent Authority to place an employee under suspension where disciplinary proceedings are contemplated or pending, or where a criminal offence is under investigation, inquiry or trial. An employee is deemed suspended from specified triggering events including detention or conviction where imprisonment occurs and dismissal or removal does not immediately follow. If penalties of dismissal, removal or compulsory retirement are set aside on appeal or by a court and the matter is remitted or further enquiry is directed, suspension is treated as continuing from the date of the original order until further orders; the Competent Authority may modify or revoke suspension orders.
