Kidnapping or obtaining custody of a child to employ the child for begging is punishable by lengthy rigorous imprisonment and fine, and maiming a child for begging attracts still heavier imprisonment and fine; a rebuttable presumption applies that any non-lawful guardian who employs a child for begging obtained custody for that purpose. "Begging" is defined to include soliciting alms in public under any pretence, entering private premises to solicit alms, exposing injuries or deformities to obtain alms, and using a child as an exhibit.
